Deliverability in 2010

Permission based mailing lists will not be enough to ensure your email gets to the inbox this year. The following factors will all begin to affect deliverability this year in my opinion:

* List Engagement: Replies to your emails
* List Engagement: opens Ratio/ Open times
* Domain Reputation: Far more significantly than before

10 things you must do in 2010

  1. Test your DKIM Setup, RBL’s and Blacklists
  2. Stop using noreply@. The more replies you get to your emails the better your deliverability will be in 2010 I guarantee it.
  3. Reply to your replies and engage your clients.
  4. Slow down your marketing messages. Diversify and use other methods for disemmenating information.
  5. Stop marketing so hard. Add content to your messages. Make them worthwhile.
  6. Clean your lists: Remove those bounces
  7. Segment your sender IP’s transaction and non-transactional
  8. Domain Reputation is now critical
  9. Keep testing, testing and testing some more – see the tools section for where to start
  10. Have a full email deliverability audit performed
