Tata Communications India joins MAAWG anti-spam coalition

Continuing India’s trend of increasing professionalism and continued desire for spreading its wings globally, Ratan Tata’s IT and telecommunications business, Tata Communications, the Indian telecommunications giant has recently announced they are to become directors of one of the worlds leading anti-spam organisations.  MAAWG (Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group) is the largest organisation of its kind, representing over 1 billion mailboxes, fighting spam and malicous messaging.

Other members of MAAWG include 1&1 Internet,  Apple,  Cisco,  McAfee,  PayPal, Spamhaus & Symantec amongst many other leading technology firms and network operators.

Tata Communications will be joining the board alongside Facebook to join pre-existing directors that include AOL, AT&T,  Cloudmark, Comcast, Cox Communications, Eloqua;,  France Telecom,  Goodmail Systems,  Openwave Systems,  Time Warner Cable, Verizon Communications  nd Yahoo! Inc.

“Both Facebook and Tata Communications will be engaging with other important social media platforms, global ISPs and the diversified constituents within the industry, to not only make sure the online world is open and connected, but to also ensure it remains as safe as possible for consumers,” said Michael O’Reirdan, MAAWG Chairman.

In related news earlier this month Tata Communications  appointed Laurie Bowen as President of Sales & Strategy for Global Data & Mobility. Responsible for all sales and marketing globally (excluding wholesale voice), Laurie will lead the Global Carrier & Enterprise Solutions teams to devise go-to-market strategies and identify opportunities to enhance the solution portfolio – driving business globally with a focus on emerging markets.

Commenting on Laurie’s appointment, Vinod Kumar, President and Chief Operating Officer of Tata Communications says, “The enterprise business is of strategic importance to us as we expand our traditional wholesale voice and IP business into enterprise offerings. Laurie brings with her a world-class track record in leadership and business growth which will assist in driving our fast growing business forward.”
